Down the Rabbit Hole

I took a three-hour class in enameling fifteen years ago.  The brilliant colors of the melted glass fired up a new interest and direction with which to take my jewelry work.  Steven was impressed with my first piece and gifted me an enameling kiln as my wedding present.  I discovered that enameling is a rather painstaking process.  A single piece must be fired multiple times to achieve the desired results.  In between firings, the enameled surface must be ground smooth with  stones of different polishing grits.  I worked with enamels for about five years and created a large body of work, many of which sold…I’ve kept my favorite pieces.  I still have my kiln and a drawer filled with little containers of enamel.  Who knows?  Someday I may return to this art form.  It’s there when the mood strikes me.  I titled this piece “Down the Rabbit Hole” because it made me think of Alice in Wonderland as she tumbled down, down, down the rabbit hole, wondering if she would ever reach the bottom. She finally did land and that was just the beginning of her adventures in Wonderland.
