For the Birds

For the first time in three years, our blue bird house finally has a blue bird family residing in it.  Until now, house wrens have always moved in before the blue birds even had a chance.  I’ve been watching Mrs. Blue poking her head out of the hole in the bird house door and flitting to and fro with nest-building material in her beak.  This morning I  walked along our prairie path to the bird house which is located in sight of my studio. I carefully opened the door  and  peeked in and to my delight, saw five tiny blue eggs!  In celebration of this event, I’m wearing this bird house pendant which I made several years ago.  It is a hefty piece made of fine silver metal clay.  An oxidized cast twig runs through the top of the bird house providing a tiny perch should a miniscule birdie take up residence!  A sterling silver leaf graces one end of the twig and a tiny round garnet set in a 14k gold bezel wraps around the twig’s opposite end.  It’s a rather large pendant and doubles as a mini-sculpture when I detach the sterling silver chain and set it upright.
