Oh, Oh, Domino!

Anything with checker boards, dots, and/or stripes catches my eye.  So when I was recently in an antique store and found a cache of Bakelite dominoes, I drew cash from my purse and surrendered on the spot!  I knew I could find all sorts of uses for them in my jewelry.  And I have!  With this pair, I’ve used one domino which I sawed lengthwise diagonally.   I drilled small holes and inserted several inches of 20 gauge sterling silver wire through each, then wrapped the wires around a steel mandrel to create a corkscrew effect.  Two hammer textured bronze rings were attached to the corkscrew wires through  drilled bottom holes, then the wire ends were heated with a mini torch to create small ball tips.   Separate lengths of sterling silver wires, to which I added flat washers  for embellishment, were slipped through the top drilled holes, a 4mm round onyx bead was added, and the wires were bent around a heavy mandrel to form earwires.  These earrings have nice movement, are very lightweight, and were fun to make.  Wait…I have a vision.  I see more pairs of domino earrings in my crystal ball!
