When I’m in my studio working…

I always enjoy listening to music or watching movies.  I use the term “watching” loosely, as I can only catch a glimpse of what is happening on the silver screen when I’m busy pounding metal, pouring resin, rolling polymer clay, beading, or doing whatever to other mixed media materials I happen be using.   Classics are my favorite genre and of late, movies from the 1930’s and 40’s have been on my viewing list.  I recently watched Boris Karloff in “The Mummy” and it inspired me to want to make pieces that resemble something one might find on an archeological expedition.  I’ve just finished this piece.  Polymer clay stamped with foreign text is set into a long sterling silver bezel and suspended from a cupped sheet of bronze which I torched to achieve a fire scale finish.  At its center sits a drilled pebble captured with sterling silver prongs.  A bronze metal clay bail and dangle finish the pendant.  Measuring a substantial 11 centimeters in length, I felt that a neck ring would be more suitable than a chain.  I chose 14 gauge bronze wire for this.  The hammer-textured neck ring is the perfect accompaniment for this ancient themed pendant!  I will have this piece at my trunk show on September 10 at Brio Gallery in Galena, Illinois.  If you’re in the area, I hope you’ll stop by!
