A sea of Delica beads!
I dare say the Myuki Corporation should be sending Kate McKinnon a hearty thank you. Sales of Delicas must be soaring thanks to Contemporary Geometric Beadwork. With the publication of CGB II fast approaching (have you ordered your copy?), chances are that higher than average Delica sales will continue for some time. I’ve just received a huge shipment of tubes and 50-gram containers and am in the midst of unpacking the order. I doubt I’ll find space for all of these in my Delica drawer. Guess I’d better start using these in a new design!

I get the majority of my Delica beads from Fire Mountain Gems. They have a great selection of colors and the best prices around.

Do you know what’s kind of odd? Despite actually mentioning this to both Fire Mountain and Miyuki, it’s as if neither entity has the slightest clue about the book, and I’m quite sure that both CGB and Jean Power’s books are directly responsible for a large surge in Delica buying over the past two years.
However, I haven’t been able to raise the slightest interest in my project on either front. I suspect that smaller outlets are well aware, but even so… I’ve had essentially zero feedback from those who sell beads.
This is unsurprising from Fire Mountain but you’d think that Miyuki might have noticed. I stopped by their booth in Tucson, and gave them a copy of the CGB calendar and a postcard to the Book Blog, but they seemed mostly mystified. “These are Delicas?” “Yep!”

Sadly, often big business forgets about the people who contribute to their success. CGB has done so much the beading community! Rest assured, those of us who have had a renewed interest in beading due to Contemporary Geometric Beadwork thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

It’s a shame that bead manufacturers fail to recognize the potential of engaging with the beading community. We have such a vast network, surely anyone with two brain cells to rub together could imagine the possibilities. Omigosh, imagine a Kate McKinnon or Barbara Briggs Delica collection! *gasp* A SUZANNE GOLDEN COLLECTION!! C’mon Miyuki, teamwork!!

Wow! That would be something! I’d love to see that happen!

One would think that the major bead manufacturers would let the designers have all the beads they need, they do promote the brand!
