I usually travel to Chicago once or twice a year to window-shop the seasonal fashions, visit art galleries, and enjoy the sites the city offers as well as the beautiful flora along Michigan Avenue. This past weekend’s jaunt to the “Windy City” was quite different as I accompanied my husband downtown for his final trip to DePaul University…a rite of passage indeed. Having taught at the university level for a total of forty years, he has finally retired. It seemed strange entering his office for the last time. He cleared out his desk drawer, removed books from the shelves, and cut his ID in half, leaving it behind along with his office keys as he walked away from that chapter in his life.

  1. Mazel tov! May he have a long and healthy retirement 🙂

    • Thank you, Stevie! He’s a busy guy and still wears several other “hats” so, thankfully he won’t be bored. And we’re very health conscious, so hopefully he’ll be well and active for a long time to come!

  2. This is a sad moment, but soon will be replaced by other activities which probably set aside or ignored for lack of time. Here is a cheer for good things to come.

    • Thanks, Alicia! It isn’t really sad…just different. Steven was always pressed for time and because we moved three hours away from DePaul, it was an extremely long commute that he won’t miss at all. He is ready to move on to other things…it’s all good!
