The first sounds of spring…

Mixed Media - Handle with Care Pendant - Polymer Clay Bird and Egg copyA gentle breeze stirring and birds calling to one another are most welcome after our long and very cold Midwest winter! Last night we left the bedroom window slightly ajar and the air felt so refreshing! This morning we awakened to the chirps and twitters of robins and red-winged black birds… songs we hadn’t heard since they migrated southward last autumn. In celebration of spring I’m wearing a mixed media  pendant today, which is titled “Handle with Care”. A small polymer clay bird perches atop a large polymer clay egg wrapped with textured sterling silver sheet that is attached with brass rivets. It is suspended from bronze wire accented with small brass beads and sterling silver wire with leaf that wraps around an oxidized fine silver cast twig. A small garnet cabochon graces one end of the twig and an oblong pearl sits at the opposite end. The bail is comprised of oxidized sterling wire.  It holds a bone bead nestled in a tiny wire-wrapped nest. I made this piece several years ago and although the polymer clay egg has faded a bit from exposure to sunlight, it remains one of my favorite pieces and one that I truly love to wear!

  2. Hi Barbara,

I don’t say this lightly, but you are truly a jewelry ARTIST, and boy are you ever!!! I have never seen anything that you have posted, whereby I would say to myself, I DON’T LIKE THAT!!! I guess you are born being that creative, correct?

    • Marilyn, thank you so much! People have said that I’m multi-talented and considering that I’ve worked in many different mediums and have received so many compliments on my work, maybe that’s true. My father was an architect and drew beautifully…I think I inherited his talent gene! I am always learning new techniques to apply to my work. I truly don’t like to make the same work again and again. The idea of creating something new and different is what excites me and most likely why I flit from medium to medium. I’m not the sort of Artist who has a specific and definable “style”, which may considered a negative by some, but it works for me!
